Work. Life. Balance

Is there such a thing as a work/life balance? Honestly, it doesn't feel like it most of the time. I personally struggle with shutting down my work to focus on my family and other aspects of my life. I always have. It's my Type A personality and strong sense of responsibility. So, how do we find a balance? We keep trying different things. For me, I have made a huge effort to not work on the weekends. I have also realized, by trial and error, that the best time for me to set aside time for the family and life, is in the morning, before I sit down to work. Why? Because sticking to just my to-do list, doesn't work for me. Once I start working, there is always "something else" I can keep working on even after I've completed my to-do list for the day. Everybody's balance is different. Everybody's tactics are different. You know you're balanced, when you are happy. When you go to bed feeling successful across all aspects of your life.

Here are some ideas to help you find your balance.

  1. Identify where you feel unsuccessful. Do you feel like you don't spend enough you time? Do you feel like you don't spend enough quality time with your family? Do you feel like you make poor eating choices?
  2. Identify WHY you feel unsuccessful. Do you not take enough time for it? Do you get distracted? Do you not take action towards it? Do you believe you don't really deserve it or are not capable of it?
  3. Pick ONE reason why you don't feel successful and change it. Develop that part of yourself. Take action towards that change. Read or listen to inspiring people.
  4. Schedule, like literally schedule in your calendar, time in each day to work on that one thing.
  5. CELEBRATE your accomplishments. After you do that ONE thing each day, recognize that YOU DID IT!
  6. Go to be satisfied and happy!
